MILWAUKEE - Junior Jessica Wolfe had 22 kills on .391 hitting and added nine digs but Milwaukee defeated the Butler volleyball team, 3-1, in the Bulldogs' regular season finale Saturday evening. With the loss, Butler enters the Horizon League Championship next weekend with a 10-6 league record and the No. 4 seed.
The Bulldogs will play UIC in the 4/5 match of quarterfinals Friday, Nov. 20. Cleveland State won the regular season title and will host the tournament.
Butler seemed in controlled the first set, jumping out to a 12-6 lead and never trailing again for a 25-22 win.
Milwaukee would win the next three sets in order. The second set was close throughout, with the team trading points until a Wolfe kill pulled BU to within 19-18. UWM closed the set with a 6-1 run to take a 25-19 set win and tie the match at 1-1.
BU trailed in the early moments of the third set, but the Dogs scored two straight points to pull within 16-14 and force a Milwaukee timeout. Milwaukee won the next three points to go up 19-14 and it would cruise, 25-20. Milwaukee cruised in the fourth set, 25-19.
Freshman Gina Vera had 44 assists while senior Stephanie Steele had a season-high 15 digs.
Milwaukee hit .292 as a team behind Kerri Schuh (22 kills), Maddie Sueppel (15 kills) and Jena Berg (15 kills).
