INDIANAPOLIS - Butler junior libero Katie Daprile has been named Horizon League Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. The Horizon League office made the announcement Monday, Oct. 19. It marks the second time in her career she has won the award.
Daprile, a Bargersville, Ind., native, led Butler to a 3-0 win over Youngstown State in the team's only match last week. Daprile had 27 digs in the sweep, which was the second-highest 3-set mark in the Horizon League this season.
"This is a great honor for Katie. She has had some incredible matches this year," head coach Sharon Clark said. "Katie is very technically sound and she has an aggressive attitude. That's what we love about having her. She is always in control for us defensively."
The Butler junior is third in the Horizon League with 5.13 digs per set in conference play. Her 541 digs last season was a Butler single-season record.
Daprile was previously named the league's defensive player of the week on November 3, 2008.
Butler volleyball (16-10, 6-3 HL) is currently third in the Horizon League standings and will take on Cleveland State and Wright State on the road this weekend.
