Green Bay def. Butler 25-23, 25-19, 25-20

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Butler volleyball team had its four-match winning streak snapped Friday night, as the Bulldogs dropped a 3-0 decision at Green Bay. The Bulldogs were held to .143 hitting and had to battle injuries early in the match.

Sophomore Maureen Bamiro led Butler with 10 kills on .389 hitting. Freshman Gina Vera handed out 32 assists while juniors Jessica Wolfe and Katie Daprile had 16 and 15 digs, respectively.

Butler (21-12, 10-5 HL) led 13-8 in the first set before the Phoenix ripped off six straight points to take the lead. The Bulldogs answered and built a 22-18 lead on a kill by junior Jalesa Lee. BU seemed to be in control later in the match at 23-19, but Green Bay ran off another 6-point run to take the first set 25-23.

It was in that first set when injuries set in.

"Unfortunately, we lost a key player who was playing a phenomenal match in the first set," head coach Sharon Clark said. "After that, we just couldn't recover."

Green Bay maintained a lead for most of the second set. The Bulldogs pulled to within 12-10 and 15-12, but the Phoenix stayed in control for a 25-19 win and a 2-0 match lead.

BU appeared primed to answer in set No. 3, taking a 4-0 lead with Daprile serving and picking up a pair of aces. Green Bay came back with a 7-2 run to take a 7-6 lead. Eventually, Butler would lead 15-14 but Green Bay pulled ahead for a 25-20 set win to clinch the sweep.

Holly Visser had a double-double (10k-14d) to lead Green Bay (10-18, 5-10 HL).

Butler concludes the regular season at Milwaukee Saturday, Nov. 14 at 5 p.m.
