Bulldogs Hang Tough To Edge Indiana State
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Butler was a step ahead of Indiana State Wednesday, night, as the Bulldogs edged the Sycamores in three sets. Senior Porshia Allen led the Bulldogs with 15 kills and eight digs.
Junior Jessica Wolfe added 12 kills and hit .360 and junior Katie Daprile had a team-high 12 digs.
The first set was close until Butler, leading 15-13, won six straight points to go ahead 21-13. The Sycamores rallied to pull within 22-20 when a kill by junior Kelsey Labrum stopped the run. The two teams traded points until sophomore Maureen Bamiro's kill clinched the set 25-22.
In the second set, Butler (18-11) forced a Sycamore timeout by taking a 9-5 lead. BU led 21-16 when ISU ran off four straight points to make it 21-20. Butler answered back and finished the set 25-21.
Butler appeared to be in trouble in set No. 3, down 12-7 early. A 6-2 run got the Dogs within 14-13. Things looked even bleaker when Indiana State had set point at 24-20, but BU rallied with six straight points for a 26-24 set win to clinch the sweep.
Freshman setter Gina Vera handed out 33 assists and had five kills. Bamiro was credited with three solo blocks and a block assist to lead the Dogs at the net.
The Bulldogs return to Horizon League play against Valparaiso Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live and can be found at ButlerSports.com and HorizonLeagueNetwork.tv.
