Butler Falls To Austin Peay, 3-0
MILWAUKEE - Just one night after one of its better hitting performances, the Butler volleyball team hit just .127 in a 3-0 loss to Austin Peay Friday afternoon at Marquette's volleyball tournament. The Bulldogs take on host Marquette Friday night.
Butler (4-2) was led by junior Jessica Wolfe, who had 11 kills and eight digs. No other Bulldog managed more than five kills despite a strong performance by the team's setters.
"We came out flat and couldn't get into a rhythm even though our passing was pretty good," head coach Sharon Clark said.
The first set was even early until a 7-2 spurt by Austin Peay gave the Governors a 17-12 lead. APSU extended the lead to eight several times and eventually took the first set 25-17.
Austin Peay (2-2) jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the second set, but the Bulldogs with two straight points late in the set to tie the stanza at 23. APSU regrouped after a timeout, claiming the next two points to take a 2-0 lead.
BU held several early leads in the third set, but the Governors went on a couple of runs late, including an 8-2 spurt that led to the 25-19 final set.
Freshman Gina Vera had a game-high 23 assists and added seven digs.
APSU's Kirstin Distler hit .450 and had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.
