Butler Picked Fourth In Horizon League Preseason Poll

INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler volleyball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League, according to a preseason poll of the league's head coaches.

The Bulldogs return five starters and eight letterwinners, including All-Horizon League performers Porshia Allen and Jessica Wolfe, from last year's 19-11 squad. Horizon League Newcomer of the Year Kelsey Labrum also returns. The Bulldogs finished 8-8 in Horizon League play en route to a tie for fourth place in the conference last season.

Butler received 42 points of a possible 64 points in the coaches poll, just three points out of third.

Defending champion Milwaukee (63 points) was picked as the preseason favorite, followed by Valparaiso (58) and Cleveland State (45).

The Bulldogs open the 2009 season Friday, Aug. 28 against Drake at the IPFW Volleyball Tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind. BU's home opener is set for Friday, Sept. 25 against Cleveland State at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
