Winthrop controlled the first set, jumping out to a 15-9 lead and maintaining a slim lead on the way to a 25-23 win.

The second set was similar, but with the Bulldogs in control.  BU led 17-16 before taking seven straight points - including three straight kills by Wolfe - to build a 24-16 lead. Butler ended up taking the set 25-20 to tie the match 1-1.

Winthrop would take the next two sets, each by a 25-21 decision. WU controlled the third set but the Bulldogs rallied to pull within 24-23. A service error then ended the set and gave Winthrop a 2-1 lead.

Butler (8-5) fought back and built a 19-17 lead in the fourth set. Winthrop then went on a couple of runs to eventually clinch the match and take the final set 25-21.

"We played well, we just couldn't win the crucial points needed to finish sets," head coach Sharon Clark said.  "Porshia was hitting well and we had good play across our front row. Winthrop just played hard and beat us."
