Bulldogs Rally Past UIC, 3-1
Result: Butler def. UIC 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21
CHICAGO - The Butler volleyball team continued its run through the Horizon League regular season with a 3-1 victory at UIC Friday night. After dropping the first set, BU rolled in the next three. Senior Jessica Wolfe has 22 kills and sophomore Gina Vera had 50 assists and 15 digs to lead the Bulldogs.
Freshman Maggie Harbison added 12 kills and 12 digs and the Bulldogs hit .227 and had 11.0 team blocks in the win. Butler is now 11-1 in Horizon League play, tied for first in the league standings with Milwaukee.
After dropping the first set 25-20, the Bulldogs managed to close out a close 25-23 set and even the match 1-1. The two teams traded points in the second set until a Harbison kill gave BU control at 20-16. The Flames would rally to tie it 22-22. Tied at 23, BU stepped up and got the next two points for the set.
After the break, BU started fast and led 5-1. Trailing 11-10, Butler got four straight points to take the lead. Butler steadily took control of the set and UIC called timeout trailing 22-16. Leading 23-21, Butler got a pair of kills from Wolfe to clinch the set and take a 2-1 match lead.
The early part of set No. 4 was close, but the Bulldogs would pull out to a 16-10 lead. UIC would pull to within 22-20 and force a Butler timeout, but the Dawgs got three of the last four points to clinch the set and the 3-1 win.
Butler has four regular season matches remaining, all at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Green Bay and Milwaukee come to Butler Nov. 5-6.
