INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler volleyball team hit .297 and made quick work of Youngstown State Friday evening, 3-0, at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Junior Maureen Bamiro led the Bulldogs with 13 kills.
The Bulldogs had just 12 attack errors and racked up five service aces as they beat the Penguins in 70 minutes. Senior Jessica Wolfe added 12 kills, eight digs and five blocks.
Butler (18-9, 12-3) got off to a quick start and never looked back. The Dawgs led 13-2 in the first set and the rout was on. YSU closed to within 17-14 at one point, but two Wolfe kills closed the set 21-15.
The second set was closer early but ended up being a rout. Butler led 14-11 before going on an 8-2 run to take a 22-13 lead. Butler would close the set 25-17.
The Bulldogs ran out to a 9-1 lead in the third set to take total command of the contest. Later, a kill by Bamiro would make it 19-8. A kill by freshman Maureen Nesbit clinched the final set 25-14 and finished the quick match.
Butler will play Cleveland State Saturday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. The match will start approximately 30 minutes after the men's basketball game, which starts at 2 p.m. It is Senior Day and the team's regular season finale.
