INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Jessica Wolfe and junior Maureen Bamiro were named to the all-tournament team after leading the BU volleyball team to a 2-1 record at the Butler Invitational on Sept. 10-11. The Bulldogs picked up a pair of 3-0 victories before losing a close match to Xavier in the final Saturday night.
Wolfe and Bamiro were Butler's two leading hitters over the three matches. Wolfe (pictured at right) averaged 3.45 kills per set and 2.91 digs per set while adding 10 block assists. The 6-2 Plainfield, Ind., native has been selected all-tournament in each of Butler's three early-season invitationals (Baylor, Arizona, Butler).
Bamiro (below) averaged 2.18 kills per set while hitting .308. It marked the second time this season she has been named all-tourney. She was also honored at Arizona back on Sept. 4.
Butler (4-6) started the weekend in impressive fashion picking up a pair of 3-0 wins over UNC-Wilmington and Army on Friday, Sept. 3. Xavier also defeated those teams, setting the scene for a Saturday night final featuring the event's two unbeaten teams. BU had a 2-1 match lead and led early in the fourth set before Xavier made a comeback to make it 2-2. XU had all the momentum and claimed the decisive set to finish the weekend 3-0.
Xavier's Claire Paszkiewicz and Chelsea Campbell were also named to the all-tourney team along with Wolfe and Bamiro. Paskiewicz, XU's primary setter, was named MVP.
Butler, now done with early-season invitationals, will open league play this coming weekend. The Bulldogs travel to Chicago to take on Loyola Friday, Sept. 17 before playing at Valparaiso Saturday, Sept. 18.
