INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler volleyball team was picked fourth in the Horizon League’s preseason poll, which was announced Wednesday. The poll consisted of votes from each of the league’s nine volleyball head coaches.
The Bulldogs, under the direction of 11th-year head coach Sharon Clark, return five starters and the libero from last year’s squad that went 21-14. Butler finished tied for third in the Horizon League with a 10-6 mark and was the No. 4 seed in the 2009 Horizon League Volleyball Championship.
Defending league tourney champ Milwaukee was picked as the league favorite, followed by Cleveland State, Valparaiso and BU. UIC was picked fifth.
Butler opens the 2010 volleyball season Friday, Aug. 27 against SMU at Baylor’s tournament. BU’s home opener is set for Tuesday, Aug. 31 vs. Marian University.
