Bamiro Recognized By COBRA Magazine
INDIANAPOLIS - Senior middle blocker Maureen Bamiro, an All-Horizon League and All-Midwest Region player last year, has been tabbed third team All-Preseason by COBRA Magazine.
Bamiro, a 6-2 native of Kalamazoo, Mich., ranked second in the Horizon League in blocks (1.11) and fifth in hitting percentage (.289), helping Butler to a league tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The senior was also eighth in the conference in points (3.40) and was voted to all-tournament teams in two in-season events.
Bamiro is one of four starters returning from Butler's 21-10 team a year ago. The Bulldogs open the 2011 season Aug. 26 against Idaho at Notre Dame.
According to its website, COBRA Magazine is the first national publication that primarily showcases the talents of African-American volleyball players. The goal is to tell inspiring stories to show that young African American players can have opportunities to thrive in the sport despite cultural differences and economic disadvantages.
