INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman libero Brooke Ruffolo has been named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native led Butler to a pair of road wins over the weekend. It is the second time this season Ruffolo has been recognized.
"Brooke is a fierce competitor who has established herself as the captain of our defense," head coach Sharon Clark said. "She's determined to keep the ball of the floor and that's what we needed this year after graduating so many players from last year's team. She's a fun player to watch."
Ruffolo averaged 5.43 digs per set in Butler's road wins over Youngstown State and Cleveland State. She had 19 digs on Friday night as BU defeated YSU 3-1. The next day, she added 19 more digs in Butler's 3-0 win at Cleveland State. The Vikings were second in the standings at the time and were riding a four-match win streak before Ruffolo and the Bulldogs beat them.
The freshman previously was honored by the Horizon League back on Sept. 12, following wins over Elon and Austin Peay.
Butler (10-12, 6-4) which has won five straight matches, is at home this weekend against league-leading Milwaukee. BU hosts UWM Saturday, Oct. 22. This weekend is Homecoming at Butler.
