Senior outside hitter Rachel Barber has been named A-10 Volleyball Offensive Co-Player of the Week after helping the Bulldogs beat Saint Louis Saturday and clinch the sixth and final spot in the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship. Barber shares the honor with Temple junior outside hitter Elyse Burkert.
Barber led Butler (17-11, 7-7) with 14 kills in its crucial win over Saint Louis. The Phoenix, Ariz., native hit .433 in the the Bulldogs' lone match of the weekend, her best hitting percentage of the season, and committed just one error. The 14 kills was her career high.
"Rachel has had a tremendous offensive performance down the stretch of the conference regular season," Butler head coach Sharon Clark said. "She is playing her best volleyball of the season and we are looking for her to continue to lead us offensively this weekend.
Barber has played in 25 matches this season (80 sets), totalling 162 kills for the Bulldogs, fourth best on the team.
The win was the Bulldogs' fifth consecutive victory and lifted the squad to sixth in the conference standings, giving Butler the final berth into the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship, which begins Friday in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Butler will play No. 3 seed VCU Friday, Nov. 16 at 4:30 p.m. ET.
