NEW YORK – Setter Morgan Peterson has been named BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday, Oct. 7. Peterson helped the Bulldogs post a 3-0 record last week with wins over No. 22 Creighton, St. John's and Seton Hall.
Peterson had a great week as she helped Butler win three matches on many different levels. The senior evenly distributed the ball with a team-high 95 assists, but she also contributed with 21 kills, 13 digs, six blocks and two service aces.
The week started with an upset win over nationally-ranked Creighton on Friday night. Peterson nearly posted a triple-double against the Jays going off for 47 assists, eight kills and eight digs. She posted a .333 attack percentage and also came up with four blocks in the four-set win.
With Butler holding onto comfortable leads against both St. John's and Seton Hall, Peterson split time at the setter position the rest of the weekend yet she came up with 20 assists and six kills against the Red Storm and a 28 assist, seven kill performance against the Pirates.
The win over Creighton gave the Bulldogs some national recognition as the team is now receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll. Butler also moved up to 42nd in the latest NCAA Women's Volleyball RPI.
After hosting 12-straight home games, Butler will spend the rest of October on the road as they prepare for more BIG EAST opponents. The team currently sits in second place in the BIG EAST standings with a 3-1 conference record.
The Bulldogs have one of the best overall records in the conference at 16-3 as they visit Xavier this weekend riding a four-match winning streak. The match at Xavier on Friday, Oct. 11 is the only game of the weekend for Butler. Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
