Camille Gutierrez joined the Butler volleyball staff in January of 2012. Gutierrez, a former assistant at Indiana State, Pacific and West Virginia, assists in recruiting, on-court training and additional duties to assist the program.
Gutierrez came to Butler University after three seasons at Indiana State University. Her duties involved developing and providing individual and group training for position players, primarily setters and defense, coordinating student-athlete recruitment, assisting with the development of practice planning and coordinating opponent scouting activities.
During Gutierrez’s time at ISU, three players were named All-Missouri Valley Conference. Also, three Sycamore players climbed into ISU’s top 10 individual career and single-season record books. As a team, ISU finished sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference in 2011, the team's best finish since the 2004 season.
Prior to coming to ISU, Gutierrez worked at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif. At Pacific, she was the Director of Volleyball Operations from 2008-2009. Prior to Pacific, she served as the first assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Kennesaw State University from July 2006 through April 2008, assistant coach at West Virginia University from 2004-2006 and the first assistant at American River Junior College in California from 1998-2003.
In addition, Gutierrez has also worked on the club volleyball level and been involved in numerous camps. On the club level, she has been a head coach for the Sacramento Town Volleyball Club and an assistant coach for the 16U and 18U teams at Davis Volleyball Club in Davis, Calif. She has worked camps at Butler for several summers and has also served as the head coach for high-school age athletes at the USAV Developmental & High Performance Camp in Iowa and a promotional assistant for UC-Davis in 1997.
Gutierrez was a standout college player at American River Junior College from 1993-95, where she led the team to two straight conference championships. Gutierrez was named a Junior College All-American, two-time team MVP, conference player of the year and American River College Female Athlete of the Year. She spent one season as the starting setter at Alabama and finished her collegiate career at UC-Davis where she was an integral part of the Northern California Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship team and was named an AVCA All-American, All-Southwest Region, NCAC Newcomer of the Year, first team All-Conference and two-time all-tournament selection.
Gutierrez is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association and has participated in the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Minority Coaches Workshop in 2003. She worked the clinic’s workshop for underprivileged children in 2007.
She is a 2004 graduate of California State University-Sacramento with a bachelor’s in kinesiology and she earned a Master’s in athletic coaching education from West Virginia University in 2006.
