Hofstra Rallies Late To Edge Bulldogs, 3-2

Coral Gables, Fla. - Sophomore Porshia Allen ripped for career-best 26 kills and freshman Jessica Wolfe duplicated her 18-kill performance from Friday evening, but Hofstra rallied for wins in the final two games to hand Butler its first defeat of the season, 30-24, 28-30, 21-30, 30-22, 15-12 on Saturday (August 25) morning at the Orange and Green Challenge.

The Bulldogs rode a staggering offensive display from Allen, who hit .444 (26 kills, 2 errors, 54 attempts) in the match. Wolfe followed up her dominant first campaign with her first career double-double on 18 kills and 16 digs.

Senior Michelle DeGeeter added 11 kills. Four Butler players collected double-figure kills, including junior Nina Inic (19), Wolfe, freshman Katie Daprile (13) and sophomore Brittany Awai (12).

After falling in the opening game 30-24, the Bulldogs responded late in the second. The Pride had the Bulldogs on the brink of going down 2-0 at 28-26, but Butler used a pair of Hofstra attack errors and back-to-back kills from Allen to come from behind for the win.

Butler came out strong again in the third game, controlling play for much of the period before breaking away in the closing points to secure a 30-21 win.

Hofstra responded in kind in the final two bouts, however, holding on for a 30-22 win in the fourth game before securing the win in the fifth.

The Bulldogs return to action Saturday night when they take on host Miami in the closing match of the Orange and Green Challenge beginning at 7:30 p.m.
