Bulldogs Fall in Five Games to Jacksonville State

Jacksonville State rallied to overcome a two games to one deficit Saturday and defeat Butler in the Butler Invitational, presented by Wyndham Hotels. One night after setting a Butler single-match high with 32 kills, senior Kali Carter posted 20 more, tying classmate Areal Bienemy for the team lead. With the 30-25, 26-30, 22-30, 30-16, 15-13 loss, the Bulldogs fall to 3-3 on the season with one match remaining Saturday.

The Bulldogs hit .196 for the match compared to the visitors' .176 mark. Butler also had 15 blocks to the Gamecocks' five, but Jacksonville State had 92 digs and 74 kills in the marathon match, which lasted two hours and 15 minutes.

Jacksonville State (4-2) was led by Suzi Terrell's 24 kills and libero Kisha West's 26 digs. For Butler, junior Megan Knightly had a team-high 13 digs, while senior setter Sara Gallagher ran the Bulldogs' offense, handing out 51 assists.

Butler held leads of 7-1 and 9-4 in the deciding game before the Gamecocks were able to rally for the 15-13 clincher.

The Bulldogs continue play in the Butler Invite Saturday night with a 7 p.m. match against Bradley.
