Butler defeated Georgetown, 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 30-19), in the opening match of the University of Maryland Invitational in College Park, Md., Friday behind a double-double from senior Kali Carter. The Columbus, Ind., native posted 15 kills and 16 digs, as the Bulldogs improve to 5-4 on the season, while Georgetown falls to 6-2.
Senior Areal Bienemy added 10 kills, while sophomore Krystal Hendrix had eight kills on .533 hitting. Junior libero Megan Knightly had 10 digs in the win. Senior Sara Gallagher dished out 33 assists, running the Butler offense to the tune of a .233 hitting percentage.
For Georgetown, Ashley Lancaster had 12 kills to lead the Hoyas, while Katy Nulty had a team-high 14 digs. Butler held the Hoyas to .053 hitting for the match, forcing Georgetown into 30 hitting errors compared to just 15 for the Bulldogs.
Butler continues play in Maryland Saturday with an afternoon match against Northern Arizona before matching up with host Maryland at 7:30 p.m.
