Dayton, Ohio - Sophomore Porshia Allen notched her seventh double-double of the year and senior Michelle DeGeeter finished just two digs short of her ninth, but the Bulldogs were unable to fend off host Wright State on Saturday (Oct. 6) afternoon as the Raiders scored a 30-16, 30-25, 30-25 decision at McLin Gym.
The Bulldogs kept the opening game close in the early going before the Raiders pulled away on the heels of a 10-1 run midway through to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Butler went up again to start the second game, leading by as many as three points at 10-7 and remaining tied as late as 18-18, but the Bulldogs would be unable to score the points they need in the end to bring the match even.
The Raiders took an early lead after the break before Butler rallied back to tie the third period at 12-12. An ensuing 9-2 run by the foe put Wright State up 21-14, but the Bulldogs would again rally back on the heels of a 9-5 trek to cut the deficit to three at 26-23. The resurgence, however, would prove to be too little too late, as the Raiders held on for the 30-25 decision.
The Bulldogs finished with 40 kills in the match, just eight shy of Wright State's final tally, but the Raiders out-hit Butler .248 to .095 to claim the three-game victory.
DeGeeter led the Bulldogs with 13 kills and eight digs in the match, while Allen posted 10 kills and 11 digs for her seventh double-double. Sophomore Nina Inic led the squad with 16 digs, while freshman Katie Daprile posted 14.
Butler returns to action on Friday (Oct. 12) when they head to Cleveland State for a 7:00 p.m. match against the Vikings.
