Indianapolis, Ind. - Dana Daprile notched a triple-double while hitting a team-high .545 and Porshia Allen posted a double-double with 21 kills and 21 digs as the Bulldogs rallied from a 2-1 deficit with a dominant fourth and fifth sets to come away with a 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-10 victory over visiting Green Bay on Friday (Oct. 24) evening at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The win sends Butler to 16-6 on the season and 6-4 in Horizon League play, while the Phoenix drops 8-12 overall and 4-6 in conference.
The two squads battled through 31 ties and 11 lead changes in the grueling five-set bout, as the Bulldogs finished with a season-high 108 digs in the match - including double-figure totals by Katie Daprile (28), Allen (21), Jessica Wolfe (20) and Dana Daprile (19) - while out-hitting Green Bay .211 to .163.
The opening set featured 13 of the ties and six of the lead changes before the Bulldogs worked out a 25-22 decision and an early advantage in the match. The two teams were not separated by more than two points throughout the first half of the period before Butler rallied for four-straight points thanks in part by two kills from Jalesa Lee to take a 16-13 advantage.
The Bulldogs would maintain their three point edge as they drew closer to clinching the opening set at 20-17, but a 3-0 jaunt by the Phoenix brought the bout back to even at 20-20. After Green Bay answered a pair of Butler points to keep the set tied at 22-22, a kill by Lee and back-to-back kills from Allen sealed the set in favor of the Bulldogs.
The two sides went right back to work in the second set that saw 12 more ties and four lead changes. Kills by Kelsey Labrum and Allen gave the Bulldogs a 17-15 advantage late in the set, but an ensuing 5-0 Green Bay run - keyed by a pair of kills from Nikki Hintze and three errors by Butler - put the Phoenix in front by three at 20-17.
Labrum and Allen again responded with back-to-back kills to help Butler pull to within one, but a 5-1 run by Green Bay closed out the set and sent the two squads into the break tied at 1-1 in the match.
Butler found itself in a similar position in the third set, leading 17-14 late in the bout, but Green Bay would again respond with a 5-0 surge before holding on for a 25-22 decision and a 2-1 lead in the bout.
A fast start by the Bulldogs in the fourth set gave them a quick 6-2 lead - an advantage they would not relinquish the rest of the way. The Phoenix cut Butler's four-point margin down to two at 12-10, but a 6-1 trek pushed the Bulldogs ahead by seven before closing out the set with a 7-2 run to claim a 10-point win.
Butler never trailed in the final and deciding set, as Allen, Dana Daprile and Wolfe each totaled a pair of kills in leading the Bulldogs to their fourth five-set victory of the season.
Dana Daprile finished the night with the team's first triple-double of the season, registering a team-best 52 assists, 12 kills and 19 digs while hitting .545 (12-0-22) in the bout. Her 52 assists also gives her 2,998 assists in her career, leaving her two shy of becoming the fifth player in school history with 3,000 assists.
Allen, meanwhile, tallied a season-best 21 kills and came a dig shy of a season-best total in recording her ninth double-double of the year, while Wolfe finished a kill short of her ninth double-double with nine kills and a season-best 20 digs.
Lee also totaled double-digit kills with 13, while Katie Daprile added a team-best 28 digs.
Butler returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 25) when it takes on league-leading Milwaukee beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
