Indianapolis, Ind. - Porshia Allen led all players with 16 kills and Jessica Wolfe added 10 kills of her own as the Bulldogs held UIC to a meager .080 hitting percentage in claiming a 33-31, 30-21, 30-22 sweep of the Flames on Friday (Nov. 2) evening at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
After a nip-and-tuck opening game, the Bulldogs slammed the door in the final two, holding UIC to .000 hitting in the second game and .065 in the third.
The two squads traded the lead six times and drew even on 10 occasions in the first contest before the Bulldogs clawed their way to a 33-31 decision. Butler found itself on the short end late, as the Flames held a three-point advantage at 27-24. Following a time out, the Bulldogs reeled off five in a row to put them in line for the game win at 29-27, but UIC would answer with three-straight of their own to reclaim the advantage at 30-29 and situated for a 1-0 match lead.
The Bulldogs didn't flinch, however, regaining the lead with back-to-back points and, after a kill by the Flames tied the game momentarily at 31-31, got kills from Jalesa Lee and Wolfe to seal the opening victory.
Butler left much less to doubt in the second game, as the Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-2 lead and would never trail. UIC closed the deficit to three at 9-6, but an ensuing 9-0 run helped Butler put an 11-point gap between the two squads and the Flames would get no closer than seven throughout the remainder of the game.
Game three held more of the same for the Flames, as the Bulldogs ran out to an 11-3 advantage and lead by no fewer than four for the rest of the contest.
Allen finished just shy of her 11th double-double of the year, finishing with 16 kills at a .205 hitting percentage while adding nine digs. Wolfe paced the squad with a .241 clip and chipped in seven digs.
Butler returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 3) when they host Loyola beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
