INDIANAPOLIS – Butler women's basketball head coach
Austin Parkinson continues to add talented student-athletes to the program for the upcoming 2022-23 season. 6-1 forward Anna Mortag signed with the Bulldogs today after spending the first two years of her collegiate career at IUPUI. The Milwaukee native averaged 6.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game last season.
Mortag came off the bench for the Jags in 2021-22, but when she played 20+ minutes she averaged 11.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. She shot 35 percent from 3-point range and stepped up against Power 5 opponents to average 10 points and four rebounds in games against Michigan, Iowa and Oklahoma. She capped off her sophomore season with 14 points in just 13 minutes in the NCAA Tournament tilt vs. the Sooners.
"I am really excited that Anna will be joining us at Butler." Parkinson said. "She is one of the most talented players I've ever coached and has the ability to score in bunches. Being a stretch four, she creates matchup problems on offense while being able to defend multiple positions on defense. Her best games were against the best competition which says a lot about what she is capable of as a player."
Parkinson views Mortag as a clutch player after witnessing her impact game in crunch time at IUPUI. She hit a game-winner against Green Bay and sent the Youngstown State game into overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer. She scored a career-high 15 points in a win over Detroit Mercy and pulled down a career-high eight rebounds in 22 minutes vs. Green Bay.
