BOX SCORE
MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Katie
Griswold scored the game-winner in the 17th minute and junior
goalkeeper Olivia
Walter made 10 saves to make the goal stand in Butler women's
soccer's 1-0 win at Milwaukee Sunday afternoon. The win was
Butler's first against Milwaukee since 1999.
"We got great leadership from our seniors and our freshmen went
out and played hard and almost as if they didn't understand the
levity of the game," head coach Tari St. John said. "Cara Burchett
was big time and Olivia finished a perfect weekend with 10
saves."
The Bulldogs are now 3-1 in league play, resulting in nine
points, and firmly in the thick of the league title chase. Detroit
is the league leader with 10 points, while Milwaukee and Cleveland
State each have nine.
Griswold's goal was her team-leading seventh of the season.
Freshmen Mary
Allen and Jackie Hafele
assisted on the play. Hafele fired a long throw-in to Allen, who
passed to Griswold for the finish.
UWM (7-5-2, 3-1 HL) had a 16-2 shots advantage and put 10 shots
on goal. Griswold's goal was the only try on goal for the Bulldogs.
Milwaukee's Sarah Hagen, the league's leading scorer, had five
shots. Three of them were on goal.
"Being up a goal in the second half against a good team like
Milwaukee, we knew we'd need a 'bend but don't break' mentality,"
St. John said.
Butler (5-9-0, 3-1 HL) will host Loyola Friday, Oct. 15 at the
Butler Bowl.
