BOX SCORE Result: Butler def. Loyola 20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-14

INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler volleyball team overcame a slow start and rolled in the fourth set to defeat Loyola, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The win was No. 170 for head coach Sharon Clark, setting the school wins record. Senior Jessica Wolfe led BU with 16 kills and 12 digs.

Butler dropped the first set, but got strong blocking to rebound to win the next three. Butler had a 13-2 blocks advantage and eventually took control of the match.

"We started a little slow. I felt like Loyola had us scouted well and played to our weaknesses," Clark said. "But we finished well, and that's what is most important."

Freshman Maggie Harbison had 13 kills, nine digs and five blocks, capping a strong weekend. Junior Maureen Bamiro had 12 kills and a match-high eight blocks.

After Loyola won the first set 25-20, the two teams traded points in the second set until an ace by Wolfe extended Butler's lead to 21-18. An attack error would make it 23-19 before BU would win 25-20.

The Bulldogs (14-7, 9-1 HL) would rout the Ramblers in the third and fourth sets. In the third set, BU would take a 15-8 lead after a pair of Loyola attack errors. Loyola would close to within 17-14 but would get no closer as Butler won 25-17 to take a 2-1 lead.

Butler then buried any chance of the match going to a fifth set, jumping to a 7-0 lead. The lead would grow to 17-7 and 22-10 before the Bulldogs closed out the match 25-14.

Clark's 170th win at Butler moved her past former coach Sharon Dingman (1992-99) and the previous wins record of 169. Clark is 170-152 in her 11th season at Butler.

"It just means that I've had a lot of good players and a lot of good assistant coaches with me here at Butler," Clark said.

The Bulldogs, now a half-game ahead of Milwaukee for first in the league standings, travels to Wright State Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
