BOX SCORE
DETROIT - The Butler women's soccer team
collected an important road win Sunday afternoon, shutting out
Detroit, 3-0. Three different Bulldog players found the back of the
net as BU improved to 4-2 in Horizon League play.
"Today's effort was a nice response to Friday's loss. The league
is so wide open," head coach Tari St. John said. "The teams that
show the most resilience will find themselves at the top."
Butler (6-10, 4-2 HL) put four shots on goal on the day, and
three were goals. Sophomore Katie
Griswold scored in the 10th minute from the right side of the
field to give BU an early 1-0 lead. Freshman Mary Allen netted
her first collegiate goal at 21:00 to extend the lead to 2-0.
Griswold's goal was her ninth of the season.
The Butler defense held the rest of the afternoon before the
Bulldogs got an insurance goal from sophomore Rachael
Melendez at 87:48.
Freshman Olivia
Colosimo was credited with a pair of assists, and Griswold also
had an assist. Junior keeper Olivia
Walter made four saves in the shutout.
"Our offense was efficient," St. John said. "Several players
found themselves in unfamiliar positions because we had some
injuries. I thought Mary Allen played well for us at center
mid."
The Bulldogs have two matches remaining in the regular season,
both at home. Butler hosts Youngstown State Friday, Oct. 22 at 4
p.m. Cleveland State comes to the Butler Bowl Sunday, Oct. 24 at
noon. Both matches will be streamed live on the Horizon League
Network.
