BOX SCORE
GREEN BAY - The Butler women's soccer team
scored twice in the second half, owned a 17-6 shots advantage and
the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 win at Green Bay Friday evening. BU is
now 2-1 in Horizon League play.
Butler freshman twins Jackie and Nikki Hafele each scored to
give Butler a 2-0 lead and senior Sarah Phelps scored on a free
kick to provide the final margin. Phelps also had an assist. The
offensive output was BU's second highest of the season. The
Bulldogs scored five goals vs. Miami (Ohio) back on Sept. 3.
"The girls were focused all day. From the training session we
had Thursday night to right before the match, they knew the task at
hand," head coach Tari St. John said. "From the first whistle, we
played some good soccer.
"Things really came together. We're hoping to take this momentum
into Sunday."
Jackie Hafele got the Dawgs on the board in the 33rd minute when
she scored on a Phelps corner kick. It was Jackie's second goal of
the season. Nikki Hafele scored in the 66th minute on a bending
rocket of a shot into the far post, from about 30 yards out.
Sophomore Rachael Melendez assisted on the goal.
With BU owning a comfortable lead, Phelps got a goal of her own,
when she banged in a free kick just from right outside the box.
"It was nice for Sarah, being a senior, to step up. It was
awesome," St. John said.
Butler continues its swing through Wisconsin Sunday at league
leading Milwaukee. The match starts at 2 p.m. ET.
