Brandon Gaudin, a 2006 Butler graduate, will be
the new radio voice of Butler men's basketball. Gaudin
will take over the play-by-play position formerly held by Butler
Director of Corporate Sponsorships Joe Gentry, who is stepping down
to take on additional duties in his full-time position with the
Bulldogs.
“With the growth we've seen over the last four years we
are excited about this strategic move,” said Mike
Freeman, Butler Associate Athletic Director for External
Operations. “Joe has done an outstanding job tripling
our corporate partnership program, calling the action as our
play-by-play voice and developing our media partnerships with 1070
The Fan and WISH/WNDY-TV. We feel Brandon can step in and do
an outstanding job as our play-by-play voice on 1070 The Fan, which
will allow Joe to continue building on the success we've
already seen with corporate partners, television and
radio.”
Gaudin has spent the past two years as the voice of the Evansville
Aces, broadcasting men's basketball, women's
basketball, men's soccer and baseball contests. He was
the host of Evansville's Radio/Internet TV Coach's
Shows for each sport, and he served as General Manager of WUEV-FM,
the University of Evansville radio station. During his time
at Evansville, he also served as a freelance on-air talent for
WEHT-TV (ABC 25).
“I'm very excited and appreciative for this opportunity
to return to my alma mater,” said the new Butler
broadcaster. “It's a unique chance to marry my
passion for broadcasting with my affinity of Butler basketball and
Butler University. I am anxious to arrive in Indianapolis and
begin preparing for the upcoming season.”
Gaudin graduated with High Honors from Butler in May of 2006 with a
degree in Communications Studies and Political Science. As an
undergraduate, he was named the Communication Studies Department
Most Outstanding Student, and he was selected by Greg Gumbel of CBS
as winner of a nationwide “You Call The Action”
broadcasting contest, which led to a live appearance on the CBS set
during halftime of the 2005 NCAA National Championship game.
He's worked as a talent producer for ESPN, served as
play-by-play announcer and media relations director for the Orem,
Utah, Owlz in Minor League Baseball and was a partner and
co-founder of Media One Management Group in New York.
Gentry handled Butler's basketball play-by-play duties and
served as host of the Butler Basketball Tonight weekly radio show
for the past four seasons. He teamed with Nick Gardner to
call Butler's four consecutive trips to the NCAA Men's
Basketball Championship, including this year's run to the
NCAA National Championship game. He'll continue to
oversee the Bulldogs' radio and television operations.
Gardner will begin his fifth season as Butler's color analyst
in 2010-11.
“It has been a great privilege for me to be the radio
“Voice of the Bulldogs” the past four seasons,”
said Gentry. “I've really enjoyed traveling with
the team and working with Nick. I'm excited about
Brandon coming back to Butler to take over and I look forward to
working with him and Nick. I also look forward to being able
to devote more time to our Butler Athletics corporate
partners.”
Gaudin will begin his duties with Butler in September.
