BOX SCORE
INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman Rachel Sklarski
scored her first career goal in the 33rd minute but IUPUI answered
with a couple goals of its own as the Butler women's soccer team
fell to the crosstown Jaguars, 3-1, Wednesday night.
Sklarski's goal came on a rebound of a shot by fellow freshman
Anna
Ventimiglia. Ventimiglia's was stopped by an IUPUI defender, as
the goalkeeper had left the net. The rebounds came to Sklarski, who
found the net from the left side at 32:58.
Sklarski's goal tied the match 1-1, as IUPUI's Sarah Colby
scored at the 4:43 mark to give the Jaguars and early lead. The tie
wouldn't last long, however, as Cara Hartman scored in the 34th
minute to give IUPUI a 2-1 lead.
Just after halftime, IUPUI's Alicia Brock was taken down inside
the box, setting up a Jaguar penalty kick. IUPUI's Cara Hartman
buried the PK in the lower left 90 to give the Jaguars a 3-1
lead.
"Give a lot of credit to IUPUI," head coach Tari St. John said.
"They played their game and played well enough to win."
Butler had a 15-10 edge in shots and 3-2 advantage in corner
kicks.
Sophomore Rachael
Melendez registered four shots for the Bulldogs, while freshman
Nikki
Hafele had three. Olivia
Walter played all 90 minutes, making three saves.
BU (3-8-0) will return to Horizon League play against Valparaiso
Sunday, Oct. 3 at the Butler Bowl. Fans are encouraged to wear pink
in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
