Blue and Gold Results

NOTRE DAME, IND. -- A strong one-two finish in the women's 3,000 meter run highlighted a record-setting performance by the Butler track and field squad at the season-opening Notre Dame Blue and Gold Meet on Friday, Dec. 2.  The Bulldogs returned from Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center with four new school records.

Butler's talented junior tandem of Kirsty Legg (right) and Katie Clark pulled away from the field and swept the top two spots in the women's 3,000.  Legg finished first in a sparkling 9:19.60, breaking her own school record in the event.  Clark came in second in 9:27.09, also breaking Legg's previous record of 9:30.07 set a year ago.

The Bulldogs also picked up a pair of school records from freshman Nicole Hudec, competing in her first collegiate meet.  Hudec placed second in the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.04 meters (36-1), breaking the previous Butler mark of 34-05.5 set by Jen Conner in 1998.  The first-year Butler athlete also placed fourth in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.31 meters (17-5).  That jump topped the previous Butler record of 16-10.75, shared by Lauren Karch (2000) and Kristi Hertzler (2006).

The fourth record performance was turned in by freshman Kelly Davidson in the women's 200.  She crossed the finish line in 26.17, breaking the Butler record of 26.64 set by Karch in 1998.

Other top performances were turned in by freshman Mara Olson in the women's 800 and sophomore Craig Jordan in the men's 3,000.  Olson, running her first collegiate race, won the 800 in 2:20.76, while Jordan, competing in the 3,000 for the first time, placed second in 8:29.27.  Senior Madison Roeder placed third in the same race in 8:41.72.

Junior Lauren McKillop finished runner-up in the women's mile run in 5:07.99, while sophomore Alex Berry posted a fourth place finish in the men's 400 meter dash in 49.49.
