BLOOMINGTON, IND. -- Newcomers Tom Curr and Nicole Hudec turned in record-breaking performances to highlight another strong showing by Butler's track and field squad at the Hoosier Open on Friday, December 9.  It was the second consecutive meet that the Bulldogs assaulted the Butler record book.

Curr, a freshman from Stroud, England, made a strong debut with a record run in the men's 1000.  He placed third in the event in 2:24.35, breaking the former school mark of 2:24.79 set by Olympian Scott Overall in 2006.  Former Butler standout Kris Gauson won the men's 1000 in 2:21.03, while Indiana All-American De'Sean Turner finished second in 2:22.45.

Hudec, who set Butler records in the long jump and triple jump in her first Butler meet a week earlier, repeated her performance with a pair of record-breaking performances at Indiana.  She broke her own school mark (36-01) in the triple jump with a leap of 36-07.50, and she posted a record time of 7.41 in the women's 55 meter dash, breaking the previous mark of 7.94 set by Jenn Sewall in 2001.

The Bulldogs also had a strong showing in the women's mile.  Junior Katie Clark (above) finished second in the race in a personal best 4:45.80, trailing only Butler assistant coach Mason Cathey, who won the event in 4:39.55.  Freshman Mara Olson came in fourth in the race in a personal best 4:48.67.  Clark's time ranks second all-time at Butler, while Olson's time is the third-best ever.

Sophomore Craig Jordan continued his early season success with a victory in the men's 3000 in a personal best 8:23.91.  Senior Madison Roeder came in second in the race in 8:26.82, while freshman Harry Ellis finished fourth in 8:30.91.

The Bulldogs have set six school records in the first two meets this season, including three by Hudec.
