INDIANAPOLIS - Butler clubbed three home runs but Purdue edged the Bulldogs, 10-8, on a windy Wednesday afternoon at Bulldog Park. BU got down 6-0 early in the game, but used the long ball to give Purdue a challenge.

With Purdue (18-10) out to a 6-0 lead, junior Nick Hladek and freshman Zach Sizemore went back-to-back to get the Bulldogs back in the game. Hladek blasted a two-run line-drive homer to left and Sizemore then lifted one out to right to cut PU's lead to 6-3. Senior Grant Fillipitch added a two-run shot in the bottom of the 3rd  to pull Butler to within 6-5.

Each team scored one run in the 4th and 7th before Purdue got a key hit in the top of the 8th. With the Boilermakers leading 8-7, PU's David Miller drew a one-out walk and Tyler Spillner doubled to put runners on the corners. With the infield in, Eric Charles pushed a ball threw the infield to score both runs and make it 10-7. 

Butler (11-13) wouldn't go quietly, however. Senior Luke Duncan doubled, his third hit of the day, and he scored on a hit by senior Michael Letzter to pull BU to within 10-8. Purdue then brought in its closer, Nick Wittgren, who got the final out. 

Duncan finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and Hladek and Fillipitch each drove in two. Sizemore was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Six Butler pitchers saw action on the mound. Freshman lefty Brad Schnitzer threw 3.0 innings with no earned runs and four strikeouts. 

Charles had three hits and drove in four and Stephen Talbott added three RBIs for Purdue. Robert Ramer pitched 5.2 innings of relief for the win.

Butler will play a three-game series this weekend at Youngstown State. A single game is set for Friday at 3 p.m. ET, and Saturday's doubleheader with the Penguins starts at 12 p.m.
