Brittany Bowen Bio
INDIANAPOLIS - Graduated Butler women's
basketball standout Brittany Bowen has signed a contract to play
professional basketball in Denmark. The 2011 Butler alum will suit
up for the Denmark Horsens Pirates in Horsens, Denmark.
"I am very excited and blessed to be given the opportunity to
continue my career and love of basketball in Denmark," Bowen said.
"It is an experience I am looking forward to and the people of
Denmark have already welcomed me with open arms."
Bowen, a 5-10 guard/forward, heads overseas after a stellar
career for the Bulldogs. She scored 1,461 career points at BU,
ranking fifth in school history. A noted shooter who could also
play with her back to the basket, Bowen averaged 11.3 points per
game and made 107 starts in a Butler uniform. She played 3,388
minutes, ranking fifth all-time at Butler.
Her .835 career free throw percentage ranked third on Butler's
all-time list and ranked four all-time at BU in 3-point field goals
(164) and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.397).
The Columbus, Ind., native was a second team All-Horizon League
pick as a senior in 2011, averaging 15.8 points and 6.2 rebounds
per game while leading BU to a 20-14 record. She was voted to the
Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team
after scoring a career-high 34 points in the league title game
against Green Bay. It was the last of her three 30-point games she
had last year for Butler.
Bowen, who was a two-time preseason All-Horizon League honoree,
will soon head to Europe where she will live with a host family in
Vejle, Denmark.
Sonny Madsen, her coach in Denmark, added: “We are very
excited to have Brittany play for us. From what I have seen so far,
I expect her to be a true all-rounder who will be able to reinforce
our defense and offense. We are looking forward to having Brittany
on board.”
"The people and country seem very loving and I will be
participating in a competitive league where the Horsens are
improving every year to win a championship," Bowen said. "I have
been blessed with great family, friends and a supportive system
through my Butler family. I wouldn't have had this opportunity
arise without the support of everyone and I'm looking forward to
representing Butler well in Denmark.
"I'm going from being a Bulldog to a Pirate but I will
always bleed Butler blue."
