SEATTLE, WASH. -- Junior Katie Clark broke her own school record in the women's 5,000 meter run and freshman Tom Curr turned in another blistering mile run to highlight a strong showing by Butler track and field athletes at the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington.  The non-scoring meet concluded on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Clark helped Butler to a strong start on the first night of the two-day meet with her performance in the women's 5,000.  She placed ninth overall in the race with a time of 16:21.21.  That topped her own school mark of 16:28.02, set a year ago.

The Bulldogs also picked up a ninth place finish from freshman Callum Hawkins in the men's 5,000.  Hawkins, making his debut in the 5,000, covered the distance in 14:03.67, the third-fastest time in school history trailing Mark Tucker and school record-holder Andy Baker (14:00.51).
 
Curr's performance highlighted Butler's final day at the Seattle meet.  He placed fourth in the men's mile invitational with a time of 4:00.11, bettering his previous personal best of 4:00.73 set a week earlier at the Meyo Invitational.  

Junior Kirsty Legg paced the Bulldogs in the women's mile invitational with a 12th place finish in 4:41.86.  Legg owns Butler's school record of 4:40.25 in the event.

The Bulldogs also picked up a solid performance from sophomore Ross Clarke, who finished 12th in the men's 3,000 invitational in 7:57.82.  Freshman Mara Olson placed 17th in the women's mile in 4:50.34, while sophomore Craig Jordan came in 21st in the men's mile in 4:06.59.

Butler's track and field squads will have a final tune-up prior to the 2012 Horizon League Indoor Championship when they head to Charleston, Ill., to participate in the Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special on Feb. 17.
