Bulldogs Falter Versus Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Butler baseball team was unable to overcome four errors in the first three innings, falling 10-3 to host Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon.

A throwing error by junior starting pitcher Joel Leichty and a fielding error by freshman shortstop Austin Miller led to a five-run bottom of the 1st inning for the Penguins (4-21, 2-6). Four of those runs were unearned.

Leichty was handed his first loss of the season (0-1) after pitching 2.2 innings for the Bulldogs (14-13, 4-4). The Mason, Ohio, native was credited with allowing four hits and eight runs, but just one earned run.

YSU sophomore right hander Patrick O'Brien picked up the win, moving to 1-4 on the season. O'Brien allowed five hits and one earned run.

Sophomore rightfielder Marcus Heath paced YSU, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a double.

Sophomore centerfielder Marcos Calderon was a bright spot for the Bulldogs, driving in two of Butler's three runs. Junior Radley Haddad went 2-for-4 with a double.

The Penguins' win evened the three-game series at 1-1 after Butler's 7-5 win on Friday. The final game of the series will be played tomorrow at noon and can be seen on the Horizon League Network HERE.
