Valpo's Deetjen Stifles Bulldogs

Box Score

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Valaraiso's Tyler Deetjen threw a complete game and limited the Butler baseball team to four hits and seven baserunners as the Crusaders edged the Bulldogs 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. All four of Valpo's runs came in the bottom of the 1st inning.

Junior Radley Haddad walked and scored in the 2nd and freshman Eric Stout scored on a Jack Dillon sac fly. That was the extent of BU's offense as Deetjen pitched a brilliant game. He struck out seven and at one point retired 19 of 20 batters.

Butler starter Dom Silvestri kept his team in the game, bouncing back from a rough first inning to go 7.0 strong frames. Silvestri allowed six hits and struck out four. After the Crusaders struck for four runs in the bottom of the 1st, Silvestri pitched six shutout innings. Only one Valpo player reached third base the rest of the day.

Butler and Valparaiso will play a doubleheader Sunday, April 22. Left-handers Brad Schnitzer and Stout are scheduled to pitch for Butler. The first game is set for a 12 p.m. Eastern time start.
