OXFORD, OHIO -- A sweep of the men's and women's championships in the 1500 meter run and a men's title in the 5,000 meter run highlighted the performance of Butler's track and field squad at the 27th Annual Miami Invitational, which concluded on Saturday, April 7, at the George Rider Track in Oxford, Ohio.

Freshman Tom Curr won the men's 1500 meter race with a time of 3:47.36, while junior Kirsty Legg (right) won the women's 1500 in 4:27.63.  Butler picked up a third title from senior Madison Roeder, who won the men's 5,000 meter run in 14:34.92.

The three champions helped lift the Bulldogs to a top half finish in both the men's and women's team races.  Butler's men finished sixth of 14 teams, while the Butler women placed eighth of 18.

The Bulldogs picked up additional points in the 800 meter run, the 1500 meter run, the 5,000 meter run and the triple jump in the women's competition, and in the 1500, 5,000, high jump and long jump in the men's events.

Senior Becky Howarth finished third in the women's 5,000 in 17:27.26, while Legg placed fifth in the women's 800 in 2:12.85.  Juniors Kaitlyn Love and Shelbi Burnett came in sixth and seventh, respectively, in the women's 1500.  Love posted a time of 4:37.86, while Burnett finished in 4:38.84.

Freshman Nicole Hudec broke her own school record in the triple jump and wound up finishing fifth overall.  She had a leap of 35-05.75, breaking her previous mark of 35-00.25.

On the men's side, sophomore Craig Jordan came in fifth in the 1500 in 3:51.58, while junior Kevin Oblinger placed ninth in the 5,000 in 15:03.26.  Sophomore Nigel Spears grabbed a fifth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 22-00.25, while sophomore Mick Wang cleared 5-10 in the high jump to tie for sixth.
