Butler Cruises Past St. Bonaventure

Box Score

Four Butler players scored in double figures to help the No. 14 Bulldogs beat St. Bonaventure 77-58 for their conference-leading sixth win of the season. Senior guards Rotnei Clarke and Chase Stigall combined for 29 points and accounted for six of Butler's 11 3-pointers.

With the win, the Bulldogs (19-4, 6-2) improved to 12-0 this season inside Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The Bonnies (10-11, 3-5) got out to an early 11-7 lead by connecting on five of their first seven shots before Butler responded with some sharpshooting of its own.

Ten straight points from Stigall and sophomore Kameron Woods, including back-to-back 3-pointers by Stigall, helped the Bulldogs spark a 13-2 run to capture the lead from St. Bonaventure. Butler never trailed again.

"You can kind of count on Chase [Stigall] to win you a couple games," Butler head coach Brad Stevens said following the win. "Today, I thought he kind of separated the game when it was going back and forth. Chase hits a couple threes and now we have at least a little bit of a rhythm."

Stigall hit three 3-pointers en route to scoring a season-high 12 points, while Clarke added three treys of his own. Clarke finished with a game-high 17 points, his 16th game of the year in double-figure scoring.

Senior center Andrew Smith and junior forward Khyle Marshall added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Smith also hauled down a game-high seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs shot 50% from the field, while holding St. Bonaventure to 39% shooting.

Butler, winners of 16 of its last 18 contests, will return to action when it visits Washington D.C., Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff against George Washington.

The Colonials (11-10, 5-3) got off to a subpar 1-2 start in league play, but have since won four of their last five A-10 games.
