INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs never trailed on Saturday night as they defeated the Creighton Bluejays by the final score of 58-52. Creighton entered the game as the top team in the BIG EAST standings. With the loss, the Bluejays fall to 5-2 in conference play while Butler improves to 3-4.

The Bulldogs enjoyed a 34-22 lead at halftime after shooting 52 percent from the floor. The 12 point lead would bloom to 16 points after a pair of free throws from Ashton Feldhaus, but the game was not out of reach as Creighton cut the deficit to single digits with 4:39 to play.

McKenzie Fujan hit a 3-point field goal with 3:07 to left that made the contest a one possession game at 46-43. Butler stood up to the challenge by scoring the next six-straight points to give them a 52-43 cushion. The 6-0 run would lead to the 58-52 victory.

Junior center Liz Stratman posted an impressive stat line with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals. Other Bulldogs to reach a double figure scoring total included Lexus Murry who poured in a career-high 12 points to go along with three assists and guard Taylor Schippers who ended the night with 11 points and six rebounds.

Blaire Langlois came off the bench to score eight points for the Bulldogs on 3-of-3 shooting. She knocked down two free throws and also added a career-high six rebounds.

Defense was the key to victory on Saturday as Butler held Creighton to 27 percent shooting (19-68). The 'Dogs outrebounded the 'Jays 43-38 and also won the points in the paint battle 24-18.

Butler will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 25 with a 12 p.m. tip vs. DePaul.
