Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bulldogs ended the weekend on a high note with a 3-0 win over BIG EAST foe Providence (25-20, 25-20, 25-11). The Bulldogs hit .312 as a team to record their 12th win of the season. Belle Obert paced the offense with a team-high 11 kills.
Obert and Kranda were the top offensive threats for Butler while Jadyn Yarling took care of the defense with a match-high 22 digs. Obert finished the match with 11 kills, nine digs and three blocks. Kranda was second on the team with 10 kills and also chipped in defensively with three blocks.
Makayla Ferguson set up the offense with 33 assists. Seven different players recorded at least one kill. Erica Stahl and Kayla Bivins posted eight and seven kills respectively. Stahl hit .500 and Bivins was second on the team swinging at a .462 clip. Stahl was all over the court in Alumni Hall finishing the Friars off with three service aces, five digs and three blocks.
Butler erased an early deficit in the first set to take a 1-0 lead on Providence with a 25-20 win. Kranda and Klingensmith recorded kills down the stretch, but attack errors would lead to the victory as the Friars missed their mark on the final two points.
The second set was all Butler early as the Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-3 advantage. Providence fought back to get within two points at 14-12, but the Bulldogs would never give up the lead as they went on to claim the 25-20 win. Obert recorded three of the team's last four kills to send Butler into the break up 2-0.
Butler didn't let up in set three as they dominated the action to earn the sweep. The Bulldogs once again opened up an 11-3 lead. That margin would balloon to 22-7 and eventually finished the match with a 25-11 win.
Butler will return to action with a home match vs. Marquette on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The event will be held at the Health and Recreation Center on campus. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
