CHICAGO, ILL. -- Butler recorded its second consecutive shutout, but didn't come away with a victory in its BIG EAST match at DePaul on Saturday (Oct. 18).  The two conference foes battled through 110 minutes, before setting for a 0-0 tie in double-overtime at DePaul's Wish Field.

The two teams were nearly identical in the final box score.  Both squads finished with 18 shots.  Butler (5-5-4, 1-3-1 BIG EAST) had six shots on goal; DePaul (4-7-3, 1-3-1 BIG EAST) finished with five.  Goalkeepers Eric Dick of Butler and Mack Robinson of DePaul, each had five saves.  The Bulldogs had a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.  

The Bulldogs had a pair of solid scoring opportunities in the first half, but Mack stopped both.  The first came on a shot by junior Vincent Mitchell midway through the opening period, and the second on a shot from sophomore David Goldsmith.

Junior Jeff Adkins, freshmen Joey Bastian and Eric Leonard and Goldsmith put shots on goal in the second half, but Mack stopped three of them and the Blue Demons picked up a team save on the fourth.

Both teams created chances in the two overtime periods, but neither squad was able to put a shot on goal.

Dick, who blanked No. 7 Marquette earlier in the week, went the distance in goal and recorded his fourth career shutout.  The final outcome left him at 3-3-3 on the year.

Adkins and Goldsmith led the Bulldogs with four shots apiece, while senior Zach Steinberger, Mitchell and Leonard each added a pair of attempts.  Senior Brandon Fricke led the Bulldogs' back line, which helped Butler to its fifth shutout this season.

The Bulldogs, heading into the stretch drive of the conference season, will have a week of preparation before going back on the road for a match at Villanova on Saturday, Oct. 25.  That BIG EAST contest will start at 1 p.m.
