CINCINNATI, Ohio – Two goals early in the second half gave Butler a 2-1 victory at Xavier on Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs improved to 8-8-1 on the year. All three goals were scored within a seven minute time frame.

Elise Kotsakis scored the game-winning goal less than one minute after Xavier tied the match at 1-1. Her ninth goal of the season came off an assist from McKenzie Muchow.

The scoring opened up with Christy Chou scoring her first goal of her collegiate career at the 46:11mark. Chou was led to the score after receiving a pass from Kotsakis.

Xavier's lone goal of the afternoon was an unassisted score from Kenadie Carlson. Her second goal of the season found the back of the net in the 52nd minute of the match.

"Xavier did well to make things extremely awkward and difficult today," Co-Head Coach Tari St. John said. "There was no flow or rhythm to the game, it was just an ugly game of soccer which usually doesn't bode well for us, but we found a way to come out on top and earn three vital points. I'm proud of the resilience of this group."

Each team was whistled for 18 fouls with Butler picking up 12 of their 18 in the second stanza. Corner kicks were even at 3 each and total shots ended up close with Butler holding onto a slim margin 12-10.

Mackenzie Hopkins was the winning goalkeeper on Sunday with three saves in 90 minutes. Katie Markesbery was busy as the Musketeer keeper as she made six stops on the day.

The end of the 2014 regular season is quickly approaching as Butler returns to action next week with a home match vs. Creighton on Oct. 25. The season finale will also be played at the Butler Bowl as the Bulldogs host Marquette on Oct. 31.
