Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – Butler and Creighton played to a 1-1 tie on Saturday night as the two evenly matched teams each pushed a goal across in the second half of action. Butler was much more aggressive, taking 17 shots to just nine from the visitors, but the scoreboard would remain tied at 1-1 after 110 minutes of action.
The first goal of the match came in the 64th minute as Alyssa Jara streaked down the right hash and delivered a beautiful pass to Lauren Sullivan who ran up the field to Jara's left side. The well timed pass hit Sullivan in stride and the sophomore scored her seventh goal of the season by beating the keeper into the lower right corner of the net.
The Bulldogs were able to knot the score at 1-1 in the 72nd minute after a score from Serina Kashimoto. Sophia Maccagnone entered the game and was able to draw a foul in the middle of the field to set up the scoring play. Kashimoto took the original touch off the free kick and streaked up the far side of the field where Maccagnone hit her with the pass. Kashimoto didn't have much of an angle, but she ended up taking her shot from the far right side of the field which beat the keeper to the left corner.
Maccagnone was able to set Butler up for the score despite only playing 12 minutes in the match. The standout junior midfielder was batting a hamstring injury and was used sparingly due to the setback.
Butler kept Danielle Rice of Creighton busy as the Bluejay goalkeeper ended the night with a match-high nine saves. Elise Kotsakis led all players with three shots on goal. Fellow senior Stephanie Kaylor and freshman Brenna Pawelkowski each added two shots on goal.
Kotsakis and Kaylor were two of four seniors to be recognized before the start of the match. Kelly Mahoney and Carolina Kowal were also honored on the field along with their parents.
