Box Score LAIE, Hawaii – A strong second half effort lifted Butler (1-6) over BYU-Hawaii in the final game of the 2014 Tom Weston Invitational. The lopsided victory was earned in the final 20 minutes of regulation as Butler outscored BYU-Hawaii 42-20.
Loryn Goodwin scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting to pace the Butler offense. Goodwin added five boards, four assists and two steals to her stat line in 32 minutes of action.
Joining Goodwin in double figures was Belle Obert and Sydney Buck. Obert had her best game of her short BU basketball career pouring in 17 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Buck was once again a perimeter threat hitting four of her five shots from distance to net 14 points.
Blaire Langlois came up with six points and the final scored total would be rounded out by Lexus Murry, Andrianna Moore and Ijeoma Uchendu who all added four. Uchendu owned the paint on Saturday afternoon, grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds.
First half action between Butler and BYU-Hawaii was even with the Seasiders taking a one-point advantage into the half after a 3-point buzzer beater from Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo. The step-back 3-pointer gave Tatupu-Leopoldo a game-high 13 points at the break edging out Loryn Goodwin who guided Butler with 12 points.
Goodwin got in a groove midway through the half to score nine-straight points for the Bulldogs. Other players giving the team a lift early in the action included Belle Obert and Sydney Buck who dropped seven and five points respectively in the opening 20 minutes.
Butler came out focused at the start of the second half to go on a 13-5 scoring run. The change of pace would continue throughout the remaining 16 minutes as the Bulldogs doubled-up BYU-Hawaii 42-20 in the second half.
The 2014-15 BIG EAST opener is coming up next on the BU schedule as the Bulldogs travel to Chicago to face DePaul on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
