Box Score NORMAL, Ill. – Butler posted a 72-60 win at Redbird Arena on Monday night as five different players reached a double figure scoring total at Illinois State. The Bulldogs shot 47 percent from the field and forced 22 turnovers in the victory.
Quality defense led to offense for Butler in the final non-conference test of the season as the Bulldogs recorded their second consecutive win of the year. BU scored 16 fast break points and 26 points off Illinois State miscues.
Ijeoma Uchendu recorded a team-high four steals in the win while adding 14 points and four rebounds. The senior forward was 5-of-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Blaire Langlois led the team in scoring with a game-high 15 points. Langlois made all three of Butler's 3-point field goals while also helping on the glass with five boards.
Loryn Goodwin was the third BU starter to finish the game in double figures. Goodwin scored seven of her 11 points in the second half. She added three assists, two rebounds and a steal to her stat line.
Bench production was highlighted by Andrianna Moore and Lexus Murry. Moore beat up the Redbirds inside for 11 points in 16 minutes and Murry was an all-around spark off the bench going for 10 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
Sydney Buck and Belle Oberts rounded out the scoring total for the Bulldogs. Buck scored four points and Obert would end the night with seven. Obert battled foul trouble throughout the game, but was a major factor in the outcome by recording three rebounds, three assists and a career-high six blocked shots.
Illinois State was able to keep the game within reach by pounding the offensive glass. The Redbirds won the rebound battle 49-34. 24 of their 49 rebounds came on the offensive glass as they recorded 22 second chance points compared to just six from BU.
Octavia Crump scored a team-high 15 points in the losing effort. Stekara Hall and Colleene Smith each added 10 rebounds.
A 13-3 run by Butler in the first half turned a one point deficit into a nine point lead as Butler jumped in out in front 27-18. BU maintained that advantage to take a 31-24 lead into halftime.
Butler opened up a 10 point lead with 17 minutes to play in the second half, but the Redbirds would fight back to get within two at 41-39. Langlois answered with a big 3-point field goal to regain the momentum and Butler would push the lead back to double figures with 7:18 to play.
With the win, Butler improves to 4-8 on the year while Illinois State falls to 0-10. Butler will return to action on Dec. 30 with the start of BIG EAST competition as they travel to South Orange, N.J. to play Seton Hall at 7 p.m.
