CLEARWATER, FLA. - Sophomore Kristin Gutierrez tossed a complete game, four-hitter to lead Butler to a 3-1 victory over Penn at Eddie C. Moore Field in Clearwater, Fla., on Thursday, March 13.  The game was the first of six that the Bulldogs will play in Florida over Spring Break.

Gutierrez, who picked up her second win of the season, was in control from the start.  She blanked Penn on just two hits over the first six innings, before surrendering a lone run in the bottom of the seventh.  The Butler left-hander had five strikeouts and two walks in her seven innings of work.

Butler jumped in front in the top of the second inning on a walk to Maria Leichty, a single to right field by Kristen Boros and a run-scoring line drive out by Krosley Ogden.

The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fourth frame.  Chelsea Norwood drew a one-out walk and scored on a double down the left field line by Boros.  Ogden then plated Boros with a single to left field.

Boros led Butler's offense with a pair of hits, one RBI and one run scored.  Ogden had a pair of RBIs.  The Bulldogs had five hits off of Penn starter Alexis Borden (2-4).

The Bulldogs will play games against Long Island and Yale on Friday, March 14, before facing Massachusetts and Iona on Saturday, March 15.  Butler will conclude the trip with a single game against Boston on Sunday, March 16.
