Women's Tennis Takes 6-1 Loss at Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips women's tennis team defeated Butler on Saturday afternoon 6-1. Stephanie McLouglin picked up the lone victory for Butler in a three-set No. 1 Singles match.

McLoughlin took a 3-6 setback in the opener, but came back to record 6-3 and 6-2 wins to defeat Karolina Maksimava. McLoughlin was also in action for Butler in No. 1 Doubles competition. She and Kailey Eaton were defeated 8-0. The doubles point went to Akron as Grace Hyde and Angelina Qin lost 8-2 at No. 2.

Hyde represented Butler at No. 2 Singles, but was defeated by Olga Shkundina 6-2, 6-1. Konstantina Adami nearly went three sets at No. 3 Singles, but her tiebreaker loss hurt her chances as she lost 7-6, 6-1.

Qin also competed hard for Butler in singles competition as her No. 5 match went to three sets. She lost to Harpainter 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Rounding out the lineup was Eaton at No. 4 Singles losing 6-4, 7-5 and Koester falling 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6.

The team will stay in Akron tonight to face Duquesne on a neutral court tomorrow morning.
