Red Storm Post 6-1 Win over Bulldogs

QUEENS, N.Y. – Butler took a 6-1 loss at St. John's on Saturday afternoon with the Red Strom opening up a 5-0 lead after six innings. The 'Dogs put their lone run on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh, but STJ countered with a single run in the bottom that led to the 6-1 final.

St. John's broke the scoreless tie with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. That lead expanded in the sixth inning as the Red Storm added three more runs off four hits with two singles and a sacrifice fly.

Will Amador scored the lone run of the game off a double play ball in the seventh. Michael Donadio put an RBI single through the right side that countered the run giving the Red Storm a 6-1 win.

Kyle Allen took the loss on the hill after tossing 5.2 innings of work. The right hander gave up five earned runs off 10 hits while striking out two. Jeff Schank and Will Schierholz also saw some time with Schank getting two outs and Schierholz finishing the final 1.2 innings.

Ryan McCormick got the win after tossing six full innings and striking out three. Thomas Hackimer got the save by taking St. John's to the finish line for the final three innings.

The third and final game of the weekend will be played tomorrow at 1 p.m. Coverage will be available online at ESPN 3.
