Kirsty Legg Finishes Stellar Career At NCAA Nationals

Eugene, Ore. - Senior Kirsty Legg closed out a stellar running career at Butler in the semifinals of the women's 1,500 meter run at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Eugene, Ore., on Thursday (June 12).  The middle distance standout was one of two Butler athletes competing at this year's national meet.

Legg, running in the second heat of the women's 1,500, posted a time of 4:31.21.  The Butler standout had her shoe ripped off when another runner stepped on her from behind, and she wound up running the race with just one shoe!  She wound up 23rd overall in the final event standings.

A top performer in outdoor track, indoor track and cross country for the Bulldogs, Legg earned her spot in the NCAA National Meet with a school-record performance at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla.  She qualified for the semifinals with a time of 4:15.83, nearly a second faster than her previous school mark.

During her four seasons with the Bulldogs, Legg won conference individual championships in each of her three sports.  She earned conference Newcomer of the Year honors in both indoor and outdoor track and field.

Junior Mara Olson, who qualified for the national meet in the women's 5,000 meter run, will be the final Butler athlete to see action in 2013-14.  She'll compete in the finals of the women's 5,000 on Saturday, June 14.
