Box Score INDIANAPOLIS -- The Butler offense was on the attack Friday night, scoring five second half goals resulting in a 5-0 victory against the Bowling Green Falcons under the lights at the Butler Bowl.
Kathryn Voelker led the Bulldogs (6-4-0) with two goals and Sophia Maccagnone recorded two assists in the shutout win, extending the team's winning streak to five.
The Bulldogs were firing on all cylinders in the first half, recording 18 shots, nine of which were on goal. BGSU goalkeeper was able to keep Butler off the scoreboard by recording nine first half saves, but that all changed quickly early in the second half as Butler scored three goals in less than three minutes.
Hannah Farley opened the scoring for Butler on a breakaway less than five minutes into the half for her first career goal. Farley intercepted a pass at midfield and left every BGSU defender behind as she beat the keeper to the left side.
Less than three minutes later, Serina Kashimoto took the ball across the field past multiple defenders and fired a shot that beat the keeper to the left post for yet another unassisted goal.
Just 18 seconds later, Elise Kotsakis notched her team leading seventh goal of the season for Butler off of a pass from Maccagnone. Maccagnone passed the ball from the middle of the field to her left where Kotsakis patiently waited to stay in line with the back defender. Her shot beat the keeper as the ball tucked in by the right post.
The offensive outburst continued as Voelker scored her first goal of the season in the 65th minute on a deflection in front of the net, assisted by Annie Weber and Kashimoto. Voelker would put her name on the score sheet again when she headed in her second goal of the night less than a minute later off of a cross from Farley. Maccagnone was also credited with an assist on what would be Butler's final goal of the night.
Butler goalkeeper Jayne Heinrich earned the win in the match, playing 59 minutes with one save in the shutout effort. Mackenzie Hopkins came on in relief in the 59th minute to seal the win for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs put up a total of 27 shots for the match, 14 of which were on goal. Their defensive intensity was just as good as the team limited BGSU to just three total shots, all of which were recorded in the second half.
Butler will look to expand their five-match winning streak next Thursday in the team's BIG EAST opener against Villanova at the Butler Bowl. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
